Getting Grounded

…. It’s been several days now since I have written…. I haven’t known what I could possibly have to say at a time when our world is feeling the gravity of such tremendous crisis. I have been grief stricken and gripped by fears of what is most definitely an uncertain future for us all.

My heart simply wouldn’t allow me to write from this place of despair.

As I awoke this morning, I could sense to what magnitude I had become completely ungrounded as a result of the velocity of our current situation. As we traverse these uncharted waters, TOGETHER, we must remember our practices and daily grounding rituals. This is when we get to implement the tools we have gained from our life experiences; ones that facilitate grounding into the present moment, fully awake and aware.

So, I chose to begin my day with, what my teacher Glenda would say, ‘taking a breath into this moment’. I got down on the floor with my son, who is without a doubt my greatest teacher, and let myself be taken by THE MOMENT. I felt the paradox of how this global crisis had brought me literally and figuratively to my knees; surrendering to the moment, and feeling completely overwhelmed with gratitude and joy for the gift of being with my son, my Teacher.

As we embark on this journey, which is both personal AND collective, we can feel empowered by the little choices we make to show up for THIS MOMENT. We can roll out our yoga mat, practice our breath sensing, put our feet in the grass, touch a tree, take a bath, call a trusted friend, get on the floor with our child… whatever it is to bring us back into the present. We can be grateful for this moment that is filled with both great sadness and great hope. Both are true.

  1. Thank you for the reminder to “breathe into this moment.” My moment today was being on a video call with all my family. Even though we have to be apart right now we can still find ways to be together <3
